All of the above. Vocals usually are what kill or make a song for me, and the music has to be good too. And the lyrics need to have some kind of intelligence as well.

Oh and no repetition! I hate the songs that are like 10 words over and over and over again! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

The overall intensity and raw emotion in the song is what really hooks me. And when i say emotion i don't mean the common ups and downs everyone goes through on a daily basis.

I would say all of the above, but Lyrics don't apply to the instrumental stuff I listen to, so lyrics apply a little less.

the beat is the most important as if it doesnt sound any good i wont listen to it long enough to bother with the lyrics etc

None of the above, beat is completely irrelevant, and lyrics are shit without meaning and meaning is shit without good lyrics to present it, no, it's where the true talent lies that sells a song or band for me, that being the instrumentals and vocals, now, of course these can't fully make up for shit lyrics with no meaning, but NOTHING can make up for shit instrumental and vocal ability, NOTHING.

To be specific, the guitar riffs and vocals have to match up with the drumbeat well, and the vocalist needs to be powerful and not chicken to soar to high notes.

The lyrics are the most important. If a song has a crappy beat, I've learned that songs can grow on you and you'll eventually like it(or at least put up with it). And the meaning the band intended might not be what the song means to you, so I'm not saying it doesn't matter what the band wrote it for, but it can different for everyone.

mostly the lyrics. it could have the best sound in the world but without decent lyrics i won't bother. doesn't help that my mp3 player is full so i have to be careful when i get a new song

If the beat doesn't interest me in the very beginning I give the lyrics a fair chance, but in order to hook me I have to like the beat. I listen to alot of instrumental and some techno without lyrics so they only get one shot. I've heard songs where I don't pay attention to the lyrics because the beat is sick and i'm into it. Sometimes the lyrics are bad, just plain bad...but i'll ignore bad lyrics for a kickass beat!

All of the above. The Vocals and beat make it cool or not, but the message is what truly makes a song good.
