I know he's supposed to be "Jewish" and I always thought he was. But then, I was curious and started to wonder if he was only Jewish by title(like one of my friends). I was wondering if he had another belief and googled it. Apparently(idk why, but this surprised me), alot of people seem to think he's Aethist.

So does anyone know for sure, has it ever been confirmed, etc.?

I've wondered the same thing. I mean in the interviews where he's asked all he says is he isn't religious but grew up Jewish, but he seems to believe in something too. So unless he actually comes out and says it, i don't think anyone but him and his close friends and family get to know:P

Well, according to the posts between his brother and he on fb, among others, he is definately Jewish. I also found the interview where he talked about studying the Kabala very interesting. Kabala is another "Jewish" thing.

Well if he is atheist it would be interesting to have something in common with the vocalist of my favorite band. its unlikely that he is giving his family history and religious views and/or up bringing.

I don't believe that he would be Athiest. He preaches about having faith, no matter what it's in.

I seriously doubt he's an atheist. In a new pic on the website he wears a red kabbalah bracelot. So i wonder if he follows that.

He was brought up to be a rabbi, and at first he wanted to leave his religious views behind him. Then came Believe in a time when people were confused, needed direction, or just needed someone to tell it it will be alright (Take a breath, and count to five). Also David did say he was close to his grandfather and his passing affected him (RIP), and he was a holocaust survivor so maybe David has had a change of heart. Also the word rabbi means teacher/a guide, and the relationship works both ways (My Brothers and Sisters my Blood) and there is a trust factor, so in a weird way by him being brought up to be a rabbi, isn't that what he is doing now in a more modern way? Just a thought.

^Yeah, I know he used to be heading in the direction of a rabbi, but that was WAY long ago. Anything could've happened. Anyways, thanks guys for answering :)

With whether not I really actually believe the christian faith, I do definitely follow it. I mean, I'd rather go with luck hoping that there's something after death, rather than nothing.

Shit, in a way I'd almost prefer Hell over nothing.

David could be non-practising and still keep his religious identity, in the same way I still consider myself Catholic, but don't actively practise my faith. I doesn't mean he or I don't have faith, we just choose not to pursue it actively.

Does this make sense to anyone else besides me?

That makes sense to me. I was the same way growing up, Before I started going to church then stopped when I finally decided I was aethiest lol. But I really do understand what your saying.

He would seem like an aethiest to me, but I don't think it matters either way.

Actually, with his study of the kabbalah and his Judiac background I would guess Mystic or Transendentalist. Plus as many have said he does seem to value faith so that kinda adds up. Anyways, I wouldnt venture to speculate to much on it.

Whatever he considers himself, he is open to all possibilities from what i gather in interviews and his songs.

David is a jew and he defiantly isn't afraid to let people know it. He has mentioned time and time again in interviews that he is a jew and he practices the faith. You know David doesn't have any tattoo's? That's not because he doesn't want any, it's because he's refraining himself because you are not allowed to be buried in a jewish cemetery with tattoo's

Your also not suppose to marry outside your religion if your jewish, and he doesn't seem to be dating Jewish girls like ever;) So maybe the tat thing will change too:)

I found this picture a long time ago, and it's always been one of my favorites of David because it shows him in a different context than we're used to seeing him.
