Do you think Disturbed should incorporate rhythm guitar into the live set?

I have been a devoted listener of Disturbed since their first album and love the majority of their songs. The thing that bothers me is that Disturbed uses a lot of layers in their songs that don't always make it to the live performance. So I ask you, do you think Disturbed should hire a rhythm guitarist or play backing tracks for rhythm guitar parts when they perform live?

I always thought Disturbed could really expand their sound if they had a second guitarist. I'm not sure if they should just have a session guitarist so that Dan still writes it all, or to let another guitarist help in the writing process easing the burden for Dan. It would be nice to have a nice influx of new ideas because they haven't really showed a whole lot of progression over the last few albums--just the addition of solos really.

only during the solo's as stricken sounds a bit weaker live when dan does the solo

I've always been all for Disturbed having a second guitarist, lets all face it regardless of how good Donegan is he's getting on in years now, it'd be a much lighter work load for him.

i don't think the need for another guitarist has anything to do with Dan's age i think that if it's ever done it should be done for music reasons

Agreed, Bowers. It's all about the music. Disturbed isn't just some corporate tool to scoop up money from the mindless masses who like to watch their favorite performers just walk around on stage and talk (rap). Or the braindead ones who go to see the pretty lights and don't even realize the performer isn't really singing. *shudders* I hate mainstream music.

i doubt they will ever get a 2nd guitarist as they are to established in the line up they have plus they would have to write rhythm guitar parts for every song

If I'm not mistaken they do have a rythm or lead guitar in the background. (Over P.A system of something?)

In the verse there's two guitars.

Okay, after listening more carefully, there are some songs where there are backing tracks played live. So now picking the last option or middle option is essentially the same thing. ... Unless of course the middle one means you want more or different songs to have more in them.

disturbed have never tried to really experiment in terms of live sound etc as why mess with perfection

I think they need a second guitar to complete the sound...specially in the solos.
and this will give Dan the chance for experiment a lot more musical possiblities...

if disturbed are happy as they are then adding another personality to the band may upset the balance

Rythm guitar can enhance the sound in a lot of bands, but i dont see it fitting with Disturbed's stytle. i think if they really wanted a rythm guitarist, they would've hired one by now.

I really don't think they would need another guitarist, one reason (the one that everyone should be thinking) they have made it 10 years...10 very successful years without a rhythm guitarist, its like the old saying goes "If its not broken don't fuck with it"

For you people who are just reading other people's comments or just not paying attention, hiring a rhythm guitarist isn't the only topic at hand. They could also simply play the backing tracks over the speakers like they do with their electronica. Pay attention.

They already do, and no need for a rhythm guitarist IMO.

They don't live. Not in the solos, anyway. That's what this thread is for.

This thread is about layers in the live songs. If there is 2 guitar tracks he usually plays rhythm well the P.A plays the other track. During a solo there's no backing track but the bass and drums is just fine for that.
