For their upcoming album "Immortalized," Disturbed have decided to bring out vocalist DAVID DRAIMAN's vulnerable side by covering Simon & Garfunkel's classic track "The Sound of Silence."

We discussed the cover with guitarist Dan Donegan, who told us that the band did not want to take the obvious approach and turn the song into full-blown metal riff fest.

Instead, they took the gentle path.

Dan tells UG: "Once we decided on covering that song, everybody else felt that the obvious path to take would be to put the Disturbed stamp on it - bring in a heavy riff at some point with some big bombastic drums.

"I kind of steered the guys in the opposite direction with it. I thought that it was typical and predictable from us. I didn't want to do it different just for the sake of being different but I wanted to try something that was going to challenge us in a new and different area and show a new flavor from us."

Focusing on gentle DAVID, Dan continued: "Because of the respect that we all have for Simon & Garfunkel, I thought that this was an opportunity to really give DAVID a moment to show a more vulnerable side to his vocals and really put him out there and have his vocals go into areas that fans haven't heard before.

"In fact, we've barely heard him go into that area before. So it was a real challenge to push him down a path that he may have felt insecure going into because he was unsure of how it would be. But they trust my intuition and my vision of where to take things and they tried it and it turned into creating a little orchestra and a nice little bed of music with some acoustic guitar stuff with some tasteful melodic lead lines in there. The intricate part was picking the spots where the guitar would complement the song."
