Okay, people, here it is, the "Experience" thread for Mayhem and the South American tour. Let's hear your reviews:

If you're familiar with the other threads I've created like this, there is not really a set format, but if you want to, include the venue name, city, and the date of the show. So the one I'm going to would be

Zoo Amphitheater
Oklahoma City, OK
August 9, 2011

Then write your review with your info.

Let us live vicariously through your experiences at your show(s), especially those of us who can't get to a show due to finances, location, or other mitigating factors.

I look forward to reading some of the reviews!

Ok. So I went to Mayhem Fest on the 17th and was impressed. I was there for the main stage only, so I dont know how the other two stages were.

Machine Head was really good, even though I had never seen them before. Megadeth kicked ass and that is even after they fucked up the audio as their set began. Then came Godsmack. Holly shit, they completely stole the show. Great crowd interaction, best sounding over all and the drum battle was just sick!

Then there was Disturbed... As much as it pains me to say it they should not be the headliner. I have seen them six times before this and they seem to have lost their passion for preforming live. Their set was very predictable. And that is even with trying to mix up a bunch of the first album songs into a tribute to Down with the Sickness. They did not get the pop from the crowd like Godsmack or even Megadeth got. Dariman didn't do his normal speech to the crowd where he would single someone or section out. Even though that contributes to the predictability I have always liked how he would talk to the crowd. There wasn't even an encore (though that might have been because of the audio curfew at the venue). Disturbed will always be my favorite band, but I think that will be the last time I attend a live show with them.

So that is my review. Please feel free to add your own review.

St. Louis on the 19th was my show. I didn't get to catch all of the sets, but I did get to catch two of the three headliners. I caught Godsmack and Disturbed.

The Godsmack set was awesome. Sully challenged the crowd and told us that if we lost our minds he'd tell the people in Cincinnati that they were a bunch of pussies. I had to laugh at that.

Disturbed was awesome and cathartic. I screamed along with every word. Hell, during Down with the Sickness, there was a guy two rows ahead of me that would turn around and we'd scream the lyrics at each other. I was jamming and moving in ways that NO ONE has seen me move in a long time. The lady behind me told me that I had some serious rhythm.

He said the same to us about St. Louis. So did you call you all a bunch of pussies?

Not that I heard. he did say that the pits he'd seen in the crowd were pitiful and the size of pumpkin seeds. lol. But, it was REALLY fucking HOT that night. Even David said it was really hot. There was even a point where they were in between songs and the guys were all chugging water and I saw David with a towel around his neck. And it wasn't a small towel. It looked like a beach towel.

Just got in from Mayhem in Raleigh NC. Trivium kicked ass. Highly unimpressed with Megadeth's perfromance. Machine Head out perfromed Megadeth. Godsmack put on ONE HELL OF A FUCKING SHOW. Then, Disturbed came out. For some reason, they were really off on Asylum in my opinion. David sounded tired. I really didnt get into the set until they played The Animal. Everything from The Animal on was perfect and spot on. I exploded and had the best night of my life. It was a perfect night, hot and muggy as hell all day and began to rain in the middle of DWTS and cooled everything off. That was my second time seeing Disturbed. I last saw them on Uproar. Its a good feeling that I got to see Disturbed perform before their hiatus and me going to college! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I'll put in my 2 cents.....

Saw the Fest at Shoreline on July 10th. Had killer seats around the 12th row dead center.

It was great seeing Megadeth again. I haven't seen them since 2000. The stage was small for them but they were awesome. Sounded great, tight as always. No frills or thrills, just music. It's always great seeing accomplished guitar playing like Megadeth puts out.

GSmack was good as usual. They had some pyro but not much. The drum dual is probably the highlight of the show and the best solo in rock/metal today. Awesome....

Disturbed was fantastic. I saw them 3 times on the Sickness and caught them on Believe but haven't seem them since......The light show and video was top notch. Love the setlist, though I miss the old songs like Fear or Voices, maybe Deify (shit I could include the entire catalogue here eh?) but props to the band for putting their newest songs out there! Also something that's never appreciated is how many songs they punched in there for so little time........

Setlist :

  1. Remnants

  2. Asylum

  3. The Game

  4. Prayer

  5. Liberate

  6. The Infection

  7. The Animal

  8. Inside the Fire

  9. Warrior

  10. Another Way to Die

  11. Stupify

  12. Ten Thousand Fists

  13. Indestructible

  14. Down with the Sickness

It was great hearing the Infection live. I love that song! I thought the band sounded the best on Asylum. They were tearing it up.....David is on the money with his comments on Twitter about how the band is sounding. They were totally polished, total professional. David sounded great. Really the only thing I noticed that was different from the old days were his "animal sounds" lack the same bottom end of his voice, but still was fine.

Any conductive criticism I could add for my favorite band would be the sound overall could be louder. My ears weren't even ringing the next day.....I think Dan should be brought up in the mix a bit. His guitar playing is right up there as best in metal today.......I know they're a headlining act now in bright lights, but if they could somehow produce their stage to be more eerie with darker tones, maybe dry ice for some effect, they would drive their package over the top...................................but, it's not like I have anywhere else to talk about Disturbed so there it is.

Best said, the show is worth the coin. And any rumors/reviews of the band not bringing it or David's voice being trashed is totally false........Go see it for yourself.

At the St. Louis Show, they did the Sickness Medley rather than the Infection. I would have loved hearing the Infection live, but it just wasn't in the cards.

Okay, here it is...my review of Mayhem:

Zoo Amphitheater
Oklahoma City, OK
August 9, 2011

I got there around 1pm, about half an hour after the gates opened. It was hot, but not as hot as it could have been.

On the second stage, I caught Straight Line Stitch- Holy shit can that girl belt it out, or what?!- and Unearth, which was too screamy for me, personally. The crowd got off on it, but for me, it was -meh-.

On the Main Stage, there was an announcement that Megadeth would not be performing because someone had an arm injury of some sort, which kind of disappointed me because I'd never seen them live, and they've been around forever. So...

Trivium came on and tore the place up! But it was really too hot for me as the sun hadn't gone down yet, so I only saw maybe the first half of their set. I'm definitely going to check out their latest release.

The "golden duo" that I'd waited about a decade to see, were Godsmack and Disturbed. Godsmack... what can I say? They absolutely started to tear the place down. Their first song was "Cryin' Like a Bitch" and I sang right along with Sully on that (how Sully knew to write a song about my ex-husband, I have NO idea LOL! I could have written it!)

The drum battle between Sully and Shannon Larkin was EPIC! Standing next to me in the pit was this kid, who was probably about 15 or so, repeat "Oh my God! That's fucking awesome!" about 100 times. He was in awe. I knew Sully had been a drummer prior to Godsmack, but I had no idea that he was that good! Damn!

Finally, Disturbed came on and finished the total teardown of the show. I was disappointed that they weren't using the staggered video screens like they had during Uproar last year (maybe the stage wasn't big enough for it, I don't know), but other than that, the rest of the show was in-FUCKING-credible! David's voice sounded the best I've ever heard it, and the energy of the crowd (I'd say 15,000, easy) was off the charts. Danny even pointed to me a couple of times from the stage (I was wearing a pink ballcap), which I thought was cool. David called out some young, drunk jerk for starting fights in the pit, saying that he didn't want that shit to happen at his show, and if the guy didn't knock it off, David would have no trouble having the guy removed. David got cheers for that!

I sang every song at the top of my lungs, jumped, threw up my fists and devil horns, and did that silly swaying thing at the beginning of "Another Way to Die"... and had to go over to the ginormus fans to cool off a couple of times. And I still had a voice when I left and my ears weren't ringing (probably because it was an outdoor venue)

I'm glad I got to see this show, the last Disturbed tour before the hiatus. It was worth the price of admission, worth risking sunstroke for, and worth having to use "Plan C" to get there and back home...an hour before a huge thunderstorm hit the area! I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!

I was so stoked to hear The Infection live. The Sickness medley is sweet, but I love the new record and as a fan, I was pumped to hear them play a lot of new material....

I would have LOVED to hear The Infection live! I was a little disappointed that they only played Remnants/ Asylum, The Animal, and Warrior off of Asylum.

I went to their hometown show... pretty much same review as everyone, Godsmack stole the show IN CHICAGO! I feel letdown by Disturbed, they just didnt bring their A game. I've seen them 4 times now, 1st mayhem fest, Uproar, MAAW5 and this Mayhem fest. Last 3 shows were pretty much all the same except the additions of the animal and warrior, thats it. I understand they have old stuff to play too, but when you drop a new album, people want to hear the new stuff. /venting
