A few years ago I was reading up on Black Sabbath and found out that Ozzy stepped down for two songs on Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die to let Bill Ward sing them instead. I even found a Trope article the other day listing times when this' happened

Listening to his back-up vocals live (especially on Prayer, Deify, The Animal, Perfect Insanity and Asylum), could you hear John taking lead vocal duties for a song or two?

I am sure he could obviously it won't be the same without David but sure John can do a song or two if it came to that.

i think john could sing but i dont think it would be right to have john doing davids songs lets face it only he could pull off his own vocals david has been clever that way he has made the songs taylor fitted to him and him alone thats what i think

John is amazing and has an awesome voice as backup! I think he could do it for sure.It would a be totally different sound obviously and I wonder if any of the fans would adapted to new vocals....and god forbid anything happen to David...
This leads me back to AC/DC when Bon Scott died and was replaced by Brian Johnson....Two awesome front men with a totally different sound but the fans adapted to Brian's vocals...to be honest anything can happen but the fans would be the one to be faithful and ease into a vocal transition.

I would never think it was a good idea for him to do David's stuff. I was more thinking he could, at some point, put together some lyrics of his own (he says he's not much of a lyrics guy).

Lead, no. Doesn't have the power behind his vocals to sing metal lead.

Can't imagine John singing lead since his voice doesn't sound as powerful as David but maybe they could sing together maybe a duet?

After watching this video, I have to disagree. You can hear him occasionally overpowering David. Anybody who can do that for even a few seconds is a good singer in my book.

Honestly, no. John has the ability to sing the backing vocals because he has a good sounding voice with a little heft and can hold pitch.

However, I dobut he has the vocal technique to sing an entire metal song. A metal song will tear your voice apart if you do not sing with a good strong technique to prevent injury and I dobut John has that kind of background. Also, I dobut John's range is developed enough yet as well.

So John doing backing vocals, hell yes. John doing lead? I don't think it would work out.

John is a very talented man and everything I've heard him sing backup in is phenomenal. But, John's not a lead vocalist. The power in his voice notwithstanding, I personally don't think that his voice is really suited for it; not for Disturbed anyway. David has made a sound for Disturbed that is just so unique that you would be able to tell if it were a different vocalist. David's voice in itself is unique. There are times when my fiance will ask if a certain song in the radio is Disturbed and I'll have to tell him no because the vocals don't match.

That all being said, John could possibly sing lead in a totally different band, but I don't see him writing his own lyrics. When the man himself says he's not much of a lyric guy, then it tends to take the romance out of the idea. Again, John is a very talented man. He's a wonderful bassist and he brings a flare to the band that Fuzz didn't (not that Fuzz wasn't a good bassist in his own right).

All in all, not to say that John's not a talented vocalist, but I really think he should stick to backup and bass.

Just my HUMBLE opinion.
