Disturbed bassist John Moyer has been making up for lost time around here the last couple of years.
The 1992 Coronado graduate, who used to go to rodeos and concerts at the El Paso County Coliseum as a kid, finally performed there with Disturbed in 2009. "I had a hefty guest list to say the least the last time," he said from Austin during a break from their Music as a Weapon V tour with Korn.
"The last time, when we played El Paso, I had to have a room that they labeled 'John Moyer's Green Room' or something like that because I had so many guests."
He's not sure how big the guest list will be when the Chicago metal band, touring in support of new album, "Asylum," plays New Mexico State University's Pan Am Center at 7 p.m. Wednesday. They're co-headlining with Korn, with StillWell and In This Moment opening. Tickets are $44.50 in advance, $48 day of show, on sale at the box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and (800) 745-3000.
Moyer, 37, who joined the band seven years ago, saw his fair share of shows at the NMSU arena. One that stands out: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. But he's never performed there. "That will be another milestone for me," Moyer said.
Disturbed has headlined or co-headlined all five Music as a Weapon tours, the latest of which commenced Jan. 14. The second leg started Saturday and runs through April 5 in North America, followed by two weeks in Australia and New Zealand. The band, touring steadily since Aug. 13, will join Godsmack

and Megadeth for the third Mayhem Festival this summer.
There are downsides. The band - singer David Draiman, guitarist Dan Donegan, drummer Mike Wengren and Moyer - was forced to cancel some shows last fall when it was announced that Draiman suffered a serious throat problem requiring vocal rest. Rumors persisted that the band's dates didn't sell well, a victim of a depressed touring industry.
Moyer said Draiman works hard to keep his voice in shape, including vocal warmups and voice lessons. But sometimes "grueling touring" can take its toll.
Disturbed's new album, "Asylum," released Aug. 31, is its fourth straight to debut at No. 1 on the SoundScan sales chart, a feat accomplished only by Metallica and the Dave Matthews Band. The Chicago metal band's first four albums have sold in excess of 1 million copies. "Asylum" hasn't reached that benchmark yet, despite opening-week sales of 179,000 copies and two singles that havetopped rock radio playlists.
Moyer said audiences know the new songs - and are singing along. "You can't ask for anything more than to have that audience reaction, have them sing back to us where I can't hear my own playing," he said.
Disturbed and Korn, who take turns closing shows, are playing "a little over an hour" each, the bassist said, not much time to play the hits and the new stuff, so the band has been working in new songs gradually. "We don't have enough time to play an album's worth of new songs," he said. "It's a good problem to have."
So is getting hit up for tickets for a near-hometown gig. Moyer figures his mom and brother, who live in El Paso, and some relatives in New Mexico will attend. He's also expecting requests from "friends" and relatives he doesn't recall.
"I'm fortunate to be in a great band like this. At the end of the day, that's what you live for," Moyer said. "I'll be more worried when people stop asking, when they stop paying attention."
