I dont listen to bass players as much in a song, cause i see them as more sound support roles for the guitar. But my favourite bass player is Robbie Merrill of Godsmack

Ryan Martinie of Mudvayne the best bassist of all the new bands.

Geddy Lee of Rush is the best (still living) of all the old bands.

For the dead bassists, I'd like to say Cliff Burton or John Entwistle.

Personally, I'm a fan of Geezer Butler, Steve Harris and Flea.

Flea is my favourite by far
Cliff Burton, Steve Harris, John Paul Jones and I'm not saying the fifth one, I'll definitely get banned for not being enough of a metalhead..

John Moyer for me hands down, he really has been an upgrade for Disturbed, and i believe has the most talent of all bassist. Others Include Paul Gray R.I.P brother, Reginald "Fieldy/Reggie" Arvizu is great also.
