"in THE ROCK, Sean Connery/capt. John Patrick Mason is an SAS (Special Air Service Regiment) agent imprisoned 30 years! without undergoing any court trial. accused of stealing a microfilm that contained United States government secrets, Mason is called by FBI director James Womack to guide a team of soldiers from entering Alcatraz island. an expert escape artist, Mason is the only man recorded to have escaped successfully in the said island.
inside Alcatraz, the soldiers including Mason and Goodspeed/Nicolas Cage find themselves surrounded by brigadier general Francis X. Hummel/Ed Harris' rogue team. as one of Hummel's men commits an error, an encounter between commander Anderson/Michael Bien's soldiers and Hummel's occur. commander Anderson's team are killed except Mason and Goodspeed.
IN CONCLUSION: the main plot is about Mason helping Goodspeed disarm 15 VX missiles. missiles used by Hummel as threat to the US government. these missiles, capable of murdering all of San Francisco!
in the film's climax, the hazardous effects of the VX is seen: Goodspeed puts one VX bulb inside capt. Frye/Gregory Sporleder's mouth. it breaks and so the chemicals spill out. killing Frye.
Goodspeed saves himself by injecting Atropine to his heart. GOODSPEED WAS ABLE TO PIN POINT THE EXACT LOCATION OF WHERE HIS OWN HEART WAS. WITHOUT HESITATION, GOODSPEED INJECTED THIS HUGE NEEDLE TO HIS OWN HEART. WOW!"
That last part just killed me. Aren't they fucking trained to inject themselves in case of chemical poisoning? Also, the heart's a pretty big target... people these days lmao.
