I loathe Country Music....my grandma would watch the Grand Ole Opery when I was a kid and I had to sit next to her and listen to that crappy music. Led Zeppelin I noticed with a few of their tracks had a twist of country or I guess folk song as you would call it Example "GOING TO CALIFORNIA" was one of the tracks but they had a sense of style they could get away with it and made the song sound great.

That's the dumbest thing I've read today by far. Country is indeed music, it's not a genre that I'm fond of myself but i sure as hell respect alot of the musicians in the genre. You'll find that most of them are more accomplished then many of the musicians you'll find in hard rock and metal.

I'm with crow and freak, i used to listen to allot of country when i was real young, but it all began to sound the same and run together. every country song is about whoring, drinking, stealing, killing, cheating, smoking, heart break or heart ache(hmm sounds like rap), its all the same songs lol. it got old after a while and started to all run together, so i turned to rock, metal dont get me wrong i dont dislike country music, i just dont listen to it, i have tons of respect for any successful artist regardless of there genre.

Living in Arkansas as a kid, Country was pretty much was all I used to listen to, do I hate the music, no, do I love it, no. But they do have some songs that I can find myself listening to. BUUUT I do get tired of the "my dog got ran over and I'm sad" B.S.

YES all the cuntry songs are very "shitty."
It's kinda like chewing on a hot fresh dog turd and singing the star spangled banner backwards while dieing.

On the "country isn't music" topic, I disagree. It is music, just bad music. On the other hand, things like RAP and DEATH METAL are not. Rap is just a whiny or egotistic moron talking to synthesized tones, and Death Metal is just a lot of low riffs that don't stand out from each other and either retard screaming at the top of his lungs or a dumbass growling from the bowels of his stomach.

Not. Music. Just noise.

ok, when i was sayin country isnt music, i was exaggerating. i should have made it clearer, but thats in the past.

technically, music is sound and silence arranged in an artistic matter. whether one likes it or not, anything that falls under that category is music. doesnt matter if its death metal, rap, country, polka, or your younger brother mumbling hip hop lines annoyingly in front of the computer, tis music.

ps. David is famous for his growling sounds, so be careful how you throw your words around

First, I'm a Disturbed fan. David doesn't growl like a death metal vocalist. He is first and foremost a singer, but is also an incredibly talented vocalist with a unique and powerful style. And I'll throw my words however I want so if you don't like it you'd better duck! XD

I wasn't speaking in technical terms. Technically, any moron who can make fart noises with his hands can make music. Let me claim my last post as my "music standard". To me, music has to sound good. Even things I don't like i.e. pop, country, etc. I consider music because they contain separate independent elements that work harmoniously together to create pleasant sounds.

I don't consider rap music because the only skill it requires is the ability to rhyme and create tones on an electronic device. In fact, most of the time the lyrics don't even rhyme. That's why I either call it talking, or noise.

Death Metal I could go on about forever, but the main reason I call it noise is because that's what it is. This requires much more skill than rap and sometimes the things they write are so difficult even seasoned musicians would shiver at the thought of trying to duplicate it. But, this is all in vain, as the parts all blend together, don't stand out from one another or cooperate with each other to create to create pleasing sounds. It all comes off as a monster of mashed together anger that simply creates loud noise.

I'm not saying there isn't the occasional rap or death metal song that comes along that actually fits my musical standard, only that it is uncommon but eagerly welcomed by people who agree with this standard. So don't tell me I don't appreciate music or other people's opinions of it, I have my own ideas and you have yours. That's just the way it is.

I don't like rap, or country. I don't mind death metal although I listen to a little bit. Rap is pretty much talking with computerized beats nowadays olus all the other stereotypes attributed to it. Now the comment about death metal with "the parts all blend together, don't stand out from one another or cooperate with each other to create to create pleasing sounds." I completely disagree with that. Yes, I'm sure there are bands that sound like that...I'm not sure of any off hand (Cannibal Corpse, Anal Cunt, etc, I guess...never listened to them). Now bands like Opeth, Dark Tranquility, Lamb of God, Before the Dawn, etc definitely have some melody and parts that stand out.

Now back to the topic...I just don't like country. It just doesn't click with me. Everything about it doesn't appeal to me...nope...nothing.

WTF is Death Metal?! I've probably heard some and had no idea that's what it was.

As for the original topic of this discussion-- I do like country music. I even worked for a country music radio station in my past. And while I do like country music, it's not what I prefer to listen to all the time. I am first and foremost a rock music chick, and always have been. I do like other genres (rap being an exception because it just irritates me), but I always go back to the rock. That's just the way I was wired, I guess. Drove my parents (especially my father, God rest his soul) crazy with bands like KISS, Aerosmith and Metallica (Dad was always telling me to "turn that crap down!").

But, for the last ten years, I have been an unapologetic :Disturbed: fan. You don't bitch at me about what I listen to, and I won't bitch at you for your musical preferences.
