IMO most of the best modern metal music comes out of Scandinavia and the rest of Europe really. I would also highly recommend Opeth(they're a "progressive death metal" band with an excellent blend of death metal and clean vocals), and Katatonia(I can't really describe them, they're metal with clean vocals, kind of heavy). Dark Tranquility is another good death metal band from Sweden. A shitload of metal bands come out of Scandinavia. Both of these are out of Sweden. If you're into more Pink Floydish stuff, I would also highly recommend some progressive rock from Britain's Porcupine Tree and Poland's Riverside. And if you can understand spanish, you will probably like Spain's Skizoo which sounds similar to Disturbed's last 3 albums. And to go back to the topic of Scandinavian bands, I also recommend Finland's Sinamore. Look them up all these bands on youtube, because their myspaces don't really have their best stuff for some of these bands.
